Fatal Mountain Lion Attack

(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In a highly unusual and harrowing incident, a mountain lion killed one man and left his brother with significant injuries over the weekend, as reported by law enforcement officials.

At the time of the harrowing attack, the two brothers, aged 18 and 21, were in Georgetown, California, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office informed in an official release cited by DNyuz.

The incident unfolded at approximately 1:13 p.m. on Saturday when the younger brother made an emergency call to 911.

He reported that they had been assaulted by a mountain lion in Georgetown, located roughly 50 miles northeast of Sacramento.

He informed the authorities that he had “suffered traumatic injuries to his face,” as stated in the release, and that he had become separated from his brother.

First responders, consisting of deputies and paramedics, quickly arrived at the scene.

The search team discovered the mountain lion positioned beside the older brother.

The situation was precarious, with the mountain lion “between the deputies and the subject on the ground,” the sheriff’s office recounted.

In an attempt to reach the older brother, deputies fired shots to drive the mountain lion away.

Yet, by the time they were able to do so, the older brother was found to be deceased. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed.

According to a report by a CBS news station in Sacramento, the brothers were in the area collecting antlers that had been shed when the attack occurred.

Aftеr thе incidеnt, specialists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, alongside a trepper from Еl Dorado County, were mobilized.

They successfully located and euthanized the mountain lion close to the scene.

The department stated that the animal’s remains were sent to a forensic laboratory to undergo DNA analysis and a health assessment.

Mountain lion attacks on humans are notably infrequent. The department highlighted that since 1890, California has witnessed fewer than 50 confirmed attacks on humans by mountain lions, with only six resulting in fatalities.

The most recent fatal encounter in the state occurred in 2004 in Orange County. It has been observed that, in most instances, the victims were alone at the time of the attack.
