(TheRedAlertNews.com) – A horrifying new warning – that the United States and its allies “are on the brink” of a new world war – has come from a US Defense Department source after the latest terrorist attacks and hostile actions in the Middle East initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The situation is becoming increasingly unstable due to the actions of groups supported by Iran, which have been targeting Israel, the United States, and various international maritime interests in the region, notes a report by The Daily Express US, citing the undisclosed Pentagon official.
Iran itself has escalated tensions by launching attacks in neighboring Iraq and Pakistan, as well as in Syria.
Defense specialist Nicholas Drummond has also expressed his concern about the potential for this conflict to escalate.
However, he cautions that a direct attack by Tehran on Israel would lead to catastrophic consequences for Iran.
“Iran’s agenda in the region, and globally, has been exposed. And Iran is on the back foot. The West is saying to Iran ‘behave yourself, or we will attack you directly,’” Drummond said.
“I think it’s highly possible that if Iran continues to act through proxies, or to act directly, that threatens Western interests, we could see military action taken against Iran, and that would be a major conflict in the Middle East,” the expert forecasted.
Drummond also mentioned that it remains uncertain if Iran is willing to engage in a conflict that would likely be disastrous for its regime.
“I think Iran has to be very, very careful. It has been playing a dangerous game. And it’s about to get punished if it doesn’t step back. You saw that [Iran] fired a missile into Syria and… it was ostensibly taking out rebel targets but it was [also] demonstrating, it has a missile capable of reaching Israel from Iran that could have with a nuclear warhead – it could target Tel Aviv,” he explained.
“That’s the message it’s sending. And, of course, if Iran did that, it would be the end of Iran, frankly,” the defense expert added.
He labeled the Islamic Republic “the biggest threat to world peace” at the moment.
This severe evaluation of the Middle East situation comes at a time when Iranian proxies are actively targeting the US and Israel in various regions, including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Lebanon, while the Iranian-supported Houthi rebels in Yemen are attacking civilian ships.
