(TheRedAlertNews.com) – The left’s offensive to prevent Donald Trump from running in the 2024 presidential election is now in full swing in different states as a senior California official has now called for removing the former president from the ballot after a decision to that end by the Colorado Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, California’s Democrat Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis penned a letter to the state’s Secretary of State Shirley Weber (D), advocating for exploring all legal avenues to exclude Trump from the 2024 presidential primary ballot.

This proposal is influenced by the ruling of the Colorado Supreme Court. The court, with a narrow majority of 4–3, voted on Tuesday to disqualify Trump from Colorado’s ballot, citing his alleged role in instigating the January 6, 2021 events at the US Capital, which is said was an insurrection..

“This decision is about honoring the rule of law in our country and protecting the fundamental pillars of our democracy,” Kounalakis wrote, as cited by National Review.

“California must stand on the right side of history. California is obligated to determine if Trump is ineligible for the California ballot for the same reasons described in [Anderson v. Griswold]. The Colorado decision can be the basis for a similar decision here in our state. The constitution is clear: you must be 35 years old and not be an insurrectionist,” she argued.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution stipulates that no individual shall hold public office if they have participated in an insurrection or rebellion against the United States.

However, a district court ruled last month that this clause was not intended to apply to the President or someone who has taken the Presidential oath.

The Colorado Supreme Court overturned this district court decision.

The ruling is temporarily on hold until January 4, awaiting an appeal from the Trump campaign to the US Supreme Court.

Should Trump be excluded from Colorado’s ballot in the 2024 presidential election, the Republican Party has stated its intention to withdraw from the GOP primary and adopt a caucus system instead.

This development in California follows a suggestion by Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick (R) to retaliate against the removal of Trump from Colorado’s ballot by removing President Joe Biden from Texas’s ballot, citing his handling of the border crisis.

The deadline for the list of presidential candidates for California’s primary on March 5 is December 28.
