(TheRedAlertNews.com) – In a tremendous humiliation for a high-profile Democrat politician, NYC’s liberal Mayor, Eric Adams, was stopped by the FBI, and his electronic devices were seized under a federal investigation into suspicions that his campaign fundraising benefitted from ties to Turkey’s government.
The FBI seized Adams’ electronic devices, including at least two cellphones and an iPad, over allegations his fundraisers may have colluded with the Turkish government and others to direct funds to his mayoral campaign.
The seizure of Adams’ devices occurred on a NYC street after an event at New York University, The New York Post reports, citing its own sources.
FBI agents approached Adams, asked his security team to step aside, and executed a court-authorized warrant to seize his electronics while inside his SUV. The devices were returned to the Mayor a few days later.
Sources indicated that Adams was aware of the FBI’s intent but did not expect the public seizure.
“The manner in which he had his phones taken away in public seems targeted against the mayor in response to his stance on the immigration crisis,” a person with knowledge of the investigation said.
Adams’ campaign attorney, Boyd Johnson, revealed the campaign had previously identified and reported misconduct by an individual associated with it.
“After learning of the federal investigation, it was discovered that an individual had recently acted improperly. In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators,” Johnson stated.
“The Mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing and continues to cooperate with the investigation,” he added.
Mayor Adams, 63, underscored his commitment to lawfulness and cooperation.
“As a former member of law enforcement, I expect all members of my staff to follow the law and fully cooperate with any sort of investigation — and I will continue to do exactly that. I have nothing to hide,” he claimed.
The incident occurred a week after FBI agents raided the home of Adams’ lead fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, while Adams was in Washington D.C. for White House immigration meetings.
Investigators are examining contributions to Adams’ 2021 campaign, possible travel to Turkey by campaign employees, and any connections to the Turkish government.
They are probing a potential “straw donors” scheme involving KSK Construction Group and Turkish officials.
Adams has emphasized his ties to Turkey in the past but recently downplayed the investigation’s severity.
