The feud intensified after De Niro, while presenting the Gotham Award for Historical Icon and Creator Tribute, discovered that his speech had been edited, leading to a public revelation during the ceremony. The actor accused Trump of a penchant for lying, stating, “History isn’t history anymore. Truth is not truth. Even facts are being replaced by alternative facts and driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness.”
Trump responded to De Niro’s comments on Sunday, criticizing the actor’s acting abilities and reputation. He accused De Niro of using a teleprompter for “foul and disgusting language” and labeled him as “unwatchable” both in movies and at events like the Academy Awards.
